DESIGNER INTRO
Hi, I’m Katie, it’s so nice to meet you!
I will be blatantly honest, it has been almost 10 years since I’ve written a blog post (IG captions don’t count, right?!) and I’m feeling a little rusty. Nevertheless it sure feels good to be back in the saddle. And of course, I’m thrilled to have you read along!
There is no better way to start a blog than an introductory post, right? So, here it goes!
Tell us a little about yourself. Besides being the principal designer behind The Builtmoore Co. Interiors, I am married to the best man in the world, Andy. He’s always super supportive and happens to be my go-do contractor, helping my designs come to life. Together we live on a hidden gem 3 acre property in Shelby Twp. Michigan along with our three boys - Jayden, Camden, and Ethan; two pups - Stuart (Daisy Dog) and Digger (Bernedoodle); and a beautiful flock of about 40 chickens.
How did you get into interior design? I’ve always been interested in design and architecture, often sketching houses on the cards in church with my father and touring model homes or open houses with my mother growing up, so it wasn’t surprising that I decided to attend Michigan State University and major in interior design.
How did The Builtmoore Co. Interiors begin? I started taking on Clients while living in Alexandria, Virginia in 2012 while simultaneously working full time. It was tough, but I knew my own studio was in the near future. When we moved back to Michigan in 2018, I resigned my full-time job to focus more on building my clientele. That was also the same year our youngest was born, and I realized I needed to scale things back temporarily. Then, in 2023, I felt the nudge to get back into the field. Here I am today!
What is your favorite design style? I love a good timeless casual look - simple and sophisticated yet fits my client’s lifestyle. I am a firm believer in designing spaces for clients that elevate their daily lifestyle. Oftentimes, we don’t realize how a few small changes and upgrades enhance the way you live.
What are some of your previous projects? Looking back, some of my most favorite projects were probably the most challenging. A few of my top projects include a custom dental office, a texas -style barbeque restaurant, and a luxury city-block of million dollar townhomes.
What are your qualifications? I currently hold my NCIDQ certificate, the highest standard a professional interior designer can hold. I also am working on my real estate license. Another goal of mine is to become a certified kitchen and bath designer (CKBD).
What do you do for fun? When i’m not designing, you’ll most likely find my in the hockey rink cheering on one of my three boys. I also enjoy playing tennis, being a homebody, and enjoying a good glass of wine. I also truly enjoy sharing design tips and encouragement with you, which is why I am excited to kick - off this blog. Writing gives me a way to express my creativity on a much different level than designing spaces, and I hope it speaks to you.
I promise you one thing, this blog will be full of inspiration, encouragement, and plenty of design tips. I encourage you to sign up for our newsletter and follow us on IG and FB.
Cheers!
Katie
